For safety reason barriers located in and about buildings, as well as external balcony balustrades and temporary edge protection systems, are required to meet particular codes based on their design and location.

Compliance is normally demonstrated by inspection and load/displacement testing of the barrier’s structural elements and/or infill panels.  Testing of barriers may be used to prove new barrier designs prior to construction or to prove the integrity/compliance of existing barriers. A range of different tests are applied, including horizontal line loads, point loads to parts of the infill and uniformly distributed loads applied to the infill.
